Presbyterian Women ministry

Every woman who is a member of our church family is a member of Presbyterian Women (PW), a national denominational organization. All women are invited to participate and help fulfill the purpose of PW to: (1) nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study; (2) support the mission of the church worldwide; (3) work for justice and peace; and (4) build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom. We fulfill this purpose through Bible study in Circles, participation in mission projects or ministries and joining in fellowship activities.

Circles

YOU are invited!

Presbyterian Women’s Circles at MPC meet September through June. We have three Circles to choose from:

  • Martha Circle meets the first Tuesday of the month at 10AM;
  • Alpha-Agape Circle meets the third Tuesday of the month at noon;
  • Covenant Renewal Circle meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7PM.

Generally, the Circles use the Bible study produced by the Presbyterian Women’s Horizons magazine, which focuses on different aspects or books of the Bible.

Mission Activities

Get involved helping others!

Some of the PW mission projects or ministries include: Women Helping Women; Prayer Shawl Ministry (meets every Thursday at MPC at 10am); Untrim a Tree for Seniors (and kids!); Together in Service projects like Pillowcases for Puerto Rico; meal preparation for community lunch program at a local church; and Weekend Food For Kids for over 100 local school children each week.

We are open to new ways to help others in our community—any suggestions?

Prayer Shawl

The Loving Hands Prayer Shawl Ministry is a group of MPC members and friends who gather to create knitted or crocheted shawls as gifts to those who have suffered a loss, are struggling with health or other issues, or are celebrating such events as marriages and baptisms.

We welcome all women and men to join our ministry. No experience is needed. We will train you! We currently have a need for help in the following areas:

  • Knitters and crocheters to create shawls, scarves, hats and mittens
  • “Fringers” to add that final touch to the shawls
  • Prayer square knitters – a great position for new beginners
  • Assistance with overseeing prayer shawl requests
  • Clerical assistance requiring some light computer skills

Meeting times are weekly on Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Room 40 of the church, if you are able to attend. All of the above tasks can also be performed from the comfort of your own home.
