Family Ministries is a priority at Manassas Presbyterian Church.  We are committed to growing spiritually through the life-long study of scripture, spiritual development, and applying Christian values to our daily lives. A variety of programs and classes support learners across all ages.  Much of our programming is offered on Sundays; however, courses of interest are periodically offered at other times. We invite you to join our church family and grow your faith.

Confirmation

We believe confirmation is the first step in fostering a passion for seeking to grow closer to God as members of the church, so our confirmation program fosters membership followed by a lifelong process that encourages learning through seeking to grow our faith together. In confirmation, youth are welcomed as members into the church similarly to adults joining by affirming what they believe and then provided creative means to grow deeper into their faith and understanding of our church.

Confirmation is offered to 8th to 12 graders every two years and begins with a time of retreat. This retreat time of seeking is held away at Massanetta Springs and is led by our pastors.

Youth can choose to attend the year when they and their parents feel they are ready. After the retreat, those who wish will be invited to join the church by sharing a faith statement (produced at the retreat) with the session. Those who join will receive a confirmation mentor to journey with them in their seeking. The youth then meet with the session and are welcomed into membership.

The retreat explores a statement of faith by the youth and is a youth version of Presbyterian 101 – what does my church believe including history, foundations and contemporary insights into our denomination. The class will then expand upon this through the spring.

All 6-12th graders will then be offered a spring curriculum that would have traditionally been taught during a confirmation class. Components will include but not be limited to biblical knowledge, interfaith awareness, mission, worship leadership, confessional statements, and the larger church.
