“In Jesus Christ, God calls people to faith and to membership in the Church, the body of Christ.” – Presbyterian Book of Order, 2015/2017
Membership at Manassas Presbyterian Church offers many opportunities to grow your faith and carry out Christ’s mission in community with others. Whether you participate in our adult or child Sunday school classes, serve as a Deacon or Elder, pack meals for the hungry, or sing the Lord’s praise as part of the choir, church membership provides the foundation for sharing your God-given gifts and living a Christ-centered life. We welcome all who trust in God’s grace in Jesus Christ.
We offer two paths to membership at Manassas Presbyterian Church:
Inquirers Class for Adult Membership
To prepare adults seeking membership, we hold a three-week “Inquirers Class” every spring and fall. The purpose of this class is to acquaint potential new members with our church history and Presbyterian history, what we believe, how we are alike and different from other Presbyterian churches, our governance, and the many options members have to participate in the life of the church. It’s also an opportunity for us to gather in fellowship as we prepare to fully welcome you into your new church family.
Inquiring adults have three options for entering into church membership after completing the class:
- Public profession of faith – if not already baptized, the new member will be baptized before the congregation
- Certificate of transfer – for those who are already members of another Christian church at the time of transfer to MPC
- Reaffirmation of faith – for those previously baptized, having previously publicly confessed their faith
We joyously welcome our Inquirers into church membership during our Sunday worship after a brief meeting with our Session. During this meeting, you will be introduced to your Deacon who will serve as an additional touch point between you and the church.
Confirmation Class for Youth Membership – Youth in grades 9 through 12 have the opportunity to join the church through our confirmation class, taught by the pastor during the Sunday school hour.
Manassas Presbyterian Church has ministered in the name of Jesus Christ for more than 150 years and we are always eager to welcome new members into our church family.
